If you’re dreaming of a holiday relaxing by the water, exploring the great outdoors and trying a range of water sports, then you can’t go past Lake Macquarie. Ingenia Holidays Lake Macquarie is just 70 minutes from Sydney and is perfectly located right on the waterfront.
Here are some of our favourite things to do to help you plan your next lakeside getaway.
Lake Macquarie is Australia’s largest coastal saltwater lake and at twice the size Sydney Harbour there is plenty of space to get out and enjoy the water. Ingenia Holidays Lake Macquarie has its own jetty and boat ramp so you can throw in a line or go boating and kayaking just steps from your accommodation. The lake is also a beautiful spot to take a swim or lay out a picnic and just soak in the serenity.
Perfect your golf swing at Morisset Country Club. The pro-quality 18 hole course is one of the most popular courses on the Central Coast and a must do for keen golfers. The course is set in lovely natural surrounds featuring grand old gum trees, dams and water hazards spread across 230 acres. The club also includes a lawn bowls club, dining and entertainment.
Lace up your bushwalking shoes and explore the stunning Watagans National Park, including Gap Creek Falls, one of the most picturesque waterfalls in the region. The park’s towering red cedars and Illawarra flame trees create a cool, rainforest oasis below, complete with strewn boulders and moss cover walls. There are several walk options, from the challenging 10km Great North Walk with its scenic lookouts to the family friendly Circuit Track which winds along the creek past dramatic rock walls.
Kids of all ages will love the Variety Playground at Speers Point Park. Spread across almost 2 hectares, the play space features a bike circuit, swings, giant spiral slide, 12m climbing towers and wheelchair accessible play boat. After all the fun, relax with a picnic or BBQ or grab a bite to eat at the adjacent café.
The Australian Reptile Park was established back in 1948 by well-known naturalist Eric Worrell. These days it is a popular tourist attraction and also helps to create lifesaving snake and spider anti-venoms. See reptiles and spiders up close, take a walk with the giant Galapagos tortoise, meet Australian native animals including the iconic Tasmanian devil and have a photo with a cuddly koala or friendly python.
